The US government's financial support to its citizens has continued in the form of more stimulus checks, with 2.2 million having been sent out in the last six weeks.
People have been speculating in the United States for weeks about the prospect of a fourth stimulus check arriving, and while there has been no official announcement from the US government, there was an inaccurate post doing the rounds that claimed a stimulus check of 2,500 dollars would come into force from July 30.
That inaccurate post led to a link where people could get their "check deposited", yet upon clicking on the link you were met by an ape with its middle finger up. Hardly the response those seeking much-needed help wanted to see.
Will there be a fourth stimulus check?
It has not been completely ruled out that US president Joe Biden will agree to another round of stimulus checks, with White House press secretary Jen Psaki claiming that Biden is "open to a range of ideas".
Yet, with the US progressing with regard to its response from the COVID-19 pandemic, hope is dissipating. Instead, the 2.2 million US citizens who have recently received financial aid from the third round of stimulus checks - 900,000 people became eligible for the payment due to a change from their 2019 to 2020 taxes, while 1.3 million people did so after coming onto the system - are likely to be the last to receive this form of assistance.
How to receive the full amount
In order to be eligible to receive the full 1,400 dollar amount from the IRS, it is necessary to fill in a tax return which shows an adjusted gross income - your total income with some deductions taken off - of 75,000 dollars or less. And for those filing a joint return with their partner, the adjusted gross income threshold is 150,000 dollars.
When will the fourth stimulus checks come out?
At this moment in time, there are no government plans for a fourth round of stimulus checks to be issued. They believe it is too soon to the third round, as evidenced by the fact that payments from the third stimulus check are still being sent out.
Joe Biden, though, has said that he and his main political leaders will listen to any proposals put forward by Congress. At the moment, though, the fourth stimulus check ball is very much in Congress' court.
The stimulus check example of California
In California, though, residents are already receiving another round of checks. That's because the state decided to launch its own recovery plan.
California Governor Gavin Newsom signed this into law on July 12. As well as stimulus checks, there are plans for rent relief and grants for some businesses.
Child Tax Credit
The argument from Biden's government is that they are now providing further financial assistance in the form of Child Tax Credit, which began on July 15, as around 60 million children will benefit from a total of 14.8 billion dollars, with the average sum equating to 423 dollars per family.
The scheme will provide 250 dollars for each child aged between six and 17, while each child under the age of six can receive 300 dollars per month. The Child Tax Credit, which is part of the American Rescue Plan, saw the level of money that each family will receive increase from 2,000 dollars to 3,600 dollars for children five and under, and 3,000 dollars for children aged 6-17.
